Since its creation, 36 years ago, Carifiesta became incontestably the great carnival of Montreal. This major summer event annually gathers approximately 250,000 people for the parade taking place every during the month of July on René Lévesque Boulevard. Carifiesta is the second greatest Caribbean carnival in importance in Canada.
On Saturday, July 9, 2011, for its 36th edition, the Carifiesta’s immensely colourful parade will take over the streets of the Montreal downtown area. Numerous people are expected to attend this annual carnival which gathers people of all origins in the expression of the joy and light heartedness associated to the Caribbean people.
For 6 hours, the participants and spectators will vibrate and dance to the rhythm of the Latin, West-Indian and afro-caribbean music. The parade will include floats decorated with the colors of the countries being represented, as well as traditional dances, exotic and picturesque costumes worn by the Carifiesta masqueraders.
