DANCEHALL PRODUCER RUSSIAN BELIEVES WITH UNITY DANCEHALL CAN REACH GREATER HEIGHTS AROUND THE WORLD

Last Saturday dancehall producer Tarik "Russian" Johnston spoke to CJLO's Reggae show MoreFyah host Junior Vibes and Singing P about his upcoming projects and the current state of the dancehall scene.

The self taught producer/hit maker who has worked with artists Vybz Kartel, Konshens opened up with Junior Vibes from Miami, regarding the recent uproar that Hip Hop is taking over Jamaica's airwaves. "The funny thing is that if people only knew about dancehall and reggae and Hip Hop the history of it: Hip Hop actual came from reggae and dancehall in New York".

He also addressed the issue that audiences are confused of what consists of dancehall music is:"The authentic dancehall pattern contains the vocals, the accent, the content and the groove... People think synthesizer make the rhythm not dancehall :Once it has the groove, and has the right message and the of content of a dancehall song that's a dancehall song."

One of his goal is too blend dancehall with the growing progression of the Hip Hop industry and change in the music scene. "The main problem with dancehall why it's not reaching where it's suppose to reach is because in Jamaica there so much fighting against each other instead of looking at the bigger picture of uniting that it won't reach where it's suppose to because of that.

He recently released his "Love Salute Riddim" and is looking forward to working on upcoming projects with Soca stars Machel Montano and Kes in the New Year. Listen to his full interview with the CJLO team here Junior-vibes/Russian Interview-
