COMMUNITY NEWS: BLACK THEATRE WORKSHOP PRESENTS 'PLAYWRIGHTS SHOWCASE'

Canada is filled with many cultures and insightful stories, often left untold. This April, Black Theatre Workshop wants to cultivate these tales with the Playwrights’ Development Showcase, a continuation of last year’s successful event “Since Mama Done Got off the Couch!”

This two day workshop allows writers to develop their stories with renowned Afro-Canadian playwrights including George Boyd, Pat Darbasie, Ahdri zhina Mandiela, Andrew Moodie, Djanet Sears, and Donna- Michelle St. Bernard and ends with a Showcase by local professional actors Tamara Brown, Tristan D. Lalla, Julie Tamiko Manning and Jimmy Blais. The event is on April 15th and 16th 2012 for writers of all backgrounds and ends on April 16th with a public Showcase at 7:30 p.m. The event will be at Black Theatre Workshop - 3680 Jeanne-Mance.

Through discussions, Q & A sessions and workshops for emerging and established writers, this forum brings together top Canadian artists to help aspiring playwrights. These intimate sessions offer unique opportunity for emerging playwrights to discuss their work and receive feedback from some of North America's best. The Playwrights’ Development Showcase ends with a public presentation of the participant’s work and a Q & A discussion with our visiting artists.

The schedule for the Playwrights’ Development Showcase is as follows. April 15: A meet and greet brunch, and an all day workshop with assigned mentors, ending with a cocktail party to mingle and discuss the days process. April 16th begins with a second all day workshop and ends with a Showcase of the participants work for BTW supporters. The two day workshop is $40 and the Showcase is $10.
