TAKE PART IN BLACK HISTORY MONTH IMAGINE A NEW WORLD

For its 21st edition, Black History Month will be celebrated with a focus on the following theme: Imagine a new world. Activities, lectures, performances, concerts, workshops, exhibitions, readings, history lessons, screenings, and special events as well activities in schools all over the province will be based around this theme.

From February 1st through the 29th, the people of Quebec from all over the province are invited to discover and familiarize themselves with the art, history and culture of Black communities.

Those with a sense of curiosity can take part in a wide variety of activities organized by over a hundred cultural and educational organizations. Included among them are the Fabienne Colas Foundation which invites cinephiles to the Fade to Black program, while the Festival Massimadi (LGBT) is back for a second year. Nuits d'Afrique presents Rythmes D'hier à Aujourd'hui, a series of 6 free concerts, Ascen/Danses unveils an ambitious project involving six dance companies, while Vues d'Afrique brings you along for their rallye expo, and Afrophylia offers up hot nights of live music at Le Piano Rouge.

Music lovers will have the opportunity to attend a number of concerts featuring great artists. Fashion lovers will have plenty to see including major shows and a beauty contest, while literarians can take in events featuring storytellers and poets.

One of the activities at the heart of Black History Month is the Héma-Quebec blood drive, in collaboration with the Sickle Cell Anemia Association of Quebec. Sickle cell anaemia is a disease which has disproportionately affected the Black community. The public is invited to support the cause by giving blood.
